Cause of death of 'Elvis' actress Shonka Dukureh revealed

Shonka Dukureh, 44, was found dead at her Nashville home on Thursday, July 21.

She played Big Mama Thornton in Baz Luhrmann's critically acclaimed film Elvis. 

Us Weekly says the official cause of her death was "hypertension and atherosclerotic heart disease", more than a month after her untimely and horrific passing.

The newspaper, which claims to have received the original report, says the death was "natural", reiterating previous comments made by the Metro Nashville PD.

"No foul play is apparent in today's death of 44-year-old actress Shonka Dukureh, who plays Big Mama Thornton in this year's Elvis film," he tweeted.

Fisk Univ graduate Dukureh was found dead in the bedroom of her home, which she shared with her two young children."

The cause of death is still unknown. According to The Tennessean, Shonka was found dead on the floor by one of her two young children, who ran to a neighbor for help.

Little is known about her children, however, she revealed on Instagram on March 16 that she has a son who loves music.

She captioned the video, which showed Shonka and a masked little boy groaning on the turntable.
