Safety issues along Blake Lane prompt school to move bus stops

The Fairfax County public school system has eliminated 22 bus stops on Blake Lane in time for the start of school this week.

Students won’t be waiting along this busy road anymore, said Karl Frisch, a member of the School Board.

Usman Shahid was driving 81 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone when he crashed into two Oakton High School students who were walking home from summer school on June 7

He is facing two counts of involuntary manslaughter.

Six bus stops will remain on Blake Lane, but students will wait for their buses on side streets instead

They will be at least 50 feet away from Blake Lane and won't approach the school bus until all traffic is stopped.
