A Marion County deputy and a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper died Tuesday 

when their helicopter crashed into a power line in a wooded area, authorities said.

A Bell 206 helicopter was destroyed and the pilot was killed when it struck a power line , 

crashed in a wooded area on Aetna Mountain near Whiteside, Tenn., around 4 p.m. today.,  

Two people were on board the plane when it went down, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.est.

The FAA and the NTSB will investigate. The NTSB will lead the investigation and provide updates as needed.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Capt. Travis Plotzer said during a press conference that an aircraft crashed, and it was a tough day for his department.

"Please give the family their privacy as we go forward," he said..

"Today is a very tragic day for law enforcement. We appreciate your support and patience as we take time to grieve."

Plotzer said his investigation is still in its "infant stages." He did not take any questions..
